The general management is carried out by the director, deputy directors for scientific work, financial and economic work. Over the years, the institute's directors were: V.E. Posedko (1939-1944), A.A. Tsymek (1944-1964), A.S. Ageenko (1964-1972), V.G. Chumin (1972-1988), D.F. Efremov (1988-2001), A.P. Kovalev (2001-2017). Director A.Y. Alekseenko (2017-2023), since 2024 – Director.

The deputy directors for scientific work were: L.V. Lyubarsky, S.N. Moiseenko, I.D. Pakhomov, A.S. Ageenko (1958-1964), N.I. Krechetov (1964-1978), V.N. Koryakin (1978-2010), A.Y. Alekseenko (2010-2023), and for general production issues: G.Z. Nezamov, P.F. Krasnova, R.G. Tyumentseva (1967-2022).

Scientific secretaries were: G.V. Senchukova, G.F. Starikov, G.I. Shekhunov, A.G. Yemlevskaya (1965-1980), A.A. Dorofeeva (1980-1983), L.P. Gul (1983-2001.), E.Y. Lysun (2001-2013), A.A. Naumova (2013-2015), D.V. Izotov (since 2015).

The directions of the Institute's scientific activity are determined by the Academic Council. It consists of leading scientists of the institute and representatives of related organizations.

For a long time, the Institute had a department of scientific and technical information and the implementation of the Institute's achievements in forestry production. At various times it was headed by N.I. Uvarova (1964-1967), G.S. Glovatskaya (1968-1994), G.N. Bratus (1999-2007).

There is a scientific and technical library in Dalniil. The library's collection consists of more than 30 thousand items of storage. The library was headed by A.S. Kiselyova (until 1964), A.I. Tselishcheva (1964-1987), M.I. Kovekh (1988-1991), L.I. Kirilenko (since 1991).

Financial, economic and planning issues are handled by employees of the Planning and Finance Department and accounting Department, headed by S.A. Gromyko, Deputy Director of the Institute for Financial and Economic Work, and O.M. Zarovkina, Chief Accountant. The duties of the chief accountant were performed by: F.G. Makarov (until 1950), S. A. Melchakov (1950-1971), E.A. Popov (1971-1986), T.S. Koreneva (1986-2001), N.E. Shalyshkina (2001-2014), O.M. Zarovkina (since 2014). The department was headed by O.R. Penyaz (1963-1977), I.B. Naikrug (1977-1999), S.A. Gromyko – since 2001.
