Forestry scientific direction
Scientific research in the field of forestry and forestry has been conducted by the Institute's staff almost since the Institute was founded.
Priority areas of research in the field of forestry and forest management include:
- development of typological classifications of forests, study of forest-growing conditions of territories, forest formation processes and successional dynamics of forest formations;
- development of methods and technologies of logging in forests of different formations and study of reforestation processes in logging areas;
- forestry and environmental expertise of logging equipment;
- study of natural regeneration processes in deforestation, burning areas and under the forest canopy;
- preparation of regional regulatory and legal documentation on the use of forests and forestry activities;
- development of standards for forest care, including chemical methods;
- development of methods for preserving undergrowth in logging areas, clearing logging sites, and promoting natural reforestation.

Scientific direction – non-wood, food and medicinal forest plants of the Far East

The resources of non-wood raw materials have been studied in order to organize integrated forest management, accounting methods, methods and technologies for harvesting and processing plant raw materials, composition, productivity and dynamics of resources of the most common types of food, medicinal, and honey plants have been developed, accounting methods have been developed to preserve and increase their productivity.

Research has been conducted and methodological recommendations have been developed on rational technologies for pruning Ayan spruce, Korean cedar, and Daurian larch.

Technologies for the production of essential oils have been patented, their chemical composition, physico-chemical characteristics, as well as the use of oils and water-oil products (fir, spruce, pine, larch, cedar, juniper, rosemary, birch, Manchurian walnut, lemongrass) have been studied.

2 patents of the USSR and 9 patents of the Russian Federation for new technologies and new forest products were obtained. He has defended 2 doctoral and 8 PhD theses. 20 technical specifications for new biologically active products from forest plants have been developed.
